Ajax coach Frank de Boer insists defensive midfielder Demy de Zeeuw still features in his first-team plans.

Godenzonen coach not writing off midfielder

Ajax coach Frank de Boer insists Demy de Zeeuw still features in his first-team plans, despite dropping the defensive midfielder against Anderlecht. The Netherlands international was replaced by Siem de Jong in De Boer's starting XI for the Europa League clash in Belgium, which Ajax won 3-0. De Zeeuw has now started just one of Ajax's last four games, with De Jong climbing the manager's pecking order. But De Boer is adamant the 27-year-old will reclaim his spot in the first team if he continues to work hard.

Wonderful

"Demy is a wonderful person and a good player," De Boer told De Telegraaf. "I've also known him for quite a while due to my time as assistant coach for the Dutch national team. "But it's not about me or Demy, it's about Ajax, and I thought it better to start Siem de Jong in midfield. "He has more power. I also think Siem has done very well and worked very hard. "Demy should simply continue to do his best. Then we'll all be fine. "I watch from game to game. In other matches, I'll choose Demy again."
