South African defender hopes to win permanent Amsterdam move

Ajax Cape Town defender Clayton Daniels is hoping to earn a permanent move to mother club Ajax after spending time on trial in Amsterdam. The 26-year-old, who has played for the Cape Town branch of the club since 2006, is undergoing his second trial stint with the Godenzonen. And Daniels hopes he has done enough to win a contract with the Eredivisie champions. He told AjaxLife.nl: "The Netherlands is a beautiful country and the level of Ajax Amsterdam is a lot higher. "I would like to come back and be connected with the first team."

Improve

Daniels feels he must improve if he wants to fully reach the standard required at Ajax. "Slowly but surely I'm beginning to find my niche," he added. "I'm not completely satisfied, but it's pretty good. "I must be physically stronger, but I have experience." The defender has enjoyed linking up with veteran centre-back Andre Ooijer during his spell in Amsterdam. "Andre is a true leader with experience," he added. "That is important for the team and for me in particular, as a novice. "I have great respect for him and I'm glad he's trying to help."
