Dwight Lodeweges has stepped down as head coach of Dutch club SC Heerenveen after a disappointing start to the season.
In a video message posted on Heerenveen's website, Lodeweges said he quit "in the interests of the club" so that a new leader can get the team back on track.
The team from the northern Netherlands narrowly missed out on a place in the Europa League last season but they have struggled this term, winning only one of nine league matches.
That victory came on the opening day of the season against last-placed De Graafschap and at the weekend they were beaten 5-2 at home by Feyenoord.
Heerenveen have appointed Foppe de Haan as interim coach. De Haan worked at Heerenveen from 1985-2004, including two long stints as coach.
The 72-year-old took charge of more than 500 matches in the longest spell by a coach at any Dutch club.
He has agreed a short period in charge to allow Heerenveen to look for a new coach, the club's technical manager Hans Vonk said.
