Former Blues defender takes managerial role

Former Spain defender Albert Ferrer has been named as the new coach of Eredivisie strugglers Vitesse Arnhem. The club have appointed Ferrer as a replacement for Theo Bos following his sacking last week. Ferrer has signed a one-and-half-year deal to take charge of Vitesse after impressing the club's new owner Georgian Merab Jordania. The 40-year-old former Barcelona and Chelsea full-back takes over with the club third from bottom in the Dutch top flight, having picked up only eight points from their first 11 games. It will be Ferrer's first foray into management and he will be assisted by Stanley Menzo, Albert Capellas Herms and Hans van Arum, with former Manchester United stopper Raimond van der Gouw continuing as goalkeeping coach at the GelreDome.
