Galatasaray have been banned from European competition for one season for breaking Financial Fair Play rules.
If the Turkish giants qualify for Europe this season, they will serve the ban in the 2016-17 campaign. If they do not qualify, the ban will be served in the 2017-18 season.
UEFA's club finance panel can sanction clubs who overspend or miss financial targets.
The Turkish champions competed in the Champions League this season, where they finished third in their group meaning they had to play in the Europa League.
They were beaten in the last 32 by Lazio, 4-2 on aggregate at the end of February.
Galatasaray official Iskender Baydar said club directors are meeting and "examining the text of the decision," and will issue a statement later Wednesday.
In 2014, UEFA fined Galatasaray 200,000 euros (£155,000) and required the club to break even on football-related trading over a three-year period.
A UEFA statement said: "This decision was taken after Galatasaray failed to comply with the terms of the settlement agreement."
UEFA referred the case to its tribunal in June after Galatasaray did not balance its budget for 2015-2016 as promised.
Galatasaray are currently fifth in the Turkish league and outside of the qualifying places for next season's Champions League and Europa League.
