St Patrick's claim notable draw, but Portadown are hit for six

St Patricks kept their Europa League dreams alive with a 1-1 draw against Siroki Brijeg, but Portadown suffered an evening to forget in Croatia. St Patrick's claimed a notable draw in Bosnia & Herzegovina as they held Siroki Brijeg on the road. Chris Fagan gave the Irish outfit a 12th minute lead, but they were unable to keep 10-man Siroki out and they levelled matters in stoppage-time. Sligo Rovers were unable to keep the Irish flag flying as they went down 3-1 away at Trnava. The Slovakian hosts were always in control of the tie and a consolation strike from Gavin Peers was all Sligo had to show for their efforts. Portadown appear to be heading out of the competition after suffering a 6-0 defeat to Belup. Nikola Rak proved to be their tormentor in chief as he netted a hat-trick.

Thriller

Russian superpowers Anzhi Makhachkala edged past Hungarian side Honved, with Brazilian midfielder Jucilei grabbing the only goal of the game. Vitesse Arnhem were involved in an eight-goal thriller with Lokomotiv Plovdiv, with a topsy-turvy encounter ending 4-4. Another Dutch side in action on Thursday were Steve McClaren's FC Twente, and they were held to a 1-1 draw by Inter Turku on home soil. Czech outfit Plzen saw off Rustavi 3-1, while Gent ended out Differdange 1-0. Among the other notable scorelines on a busy night of second qualifying round action was APOEL's 2-0 victory over Senica.
