Portuguese giants to part company with Carvalhal
Sporting Lisbon have confirmed that coach Carlos Carvalhal will be leaving at the end of the season.
Sporting are currently well off the pace in the Super Liga, and lie in fourth - some 23 points behind leaders Benfica.
Carvalhal only took charge in November, but he has failed to reverse their fortunes and they are now looking for a new coach.
In a statement to the Portuguese stock market, the club said: "It has been communicated to Carlos Carvalhal that Sporting would not exercise their option, to extend his term by another year.
"From this point onwards, efforts will start to bring in a new coach for the senior football team."
Braga's Domingos Pacienca is already being mentioned as a likely successor.
