Sir Geoff Hurst is encouraged by England's performances so far in Euro 2016

Sir Geoff Hurst believes England will go far in Euro 2016 after being encouraged by their displays in the tournament so far.

England followed up their 1-1 draw with Russia in the opening game with a dramatic 2-1 victory over rivals Wales to top Group B.

Roy Hodgson's side face Slovakia in their final group game on Monday and World Cup winner Hurst was impressed with the England manager's tactical changes. 

"We should qualify now from where we are," Hurst told Sky Sports. "The first game (Hodgson) kept it fairly safe, but then we lost a goal late on, which happens.

"But when he had to make positive changes in the second game, he brought two lads on and coincidentally they both scored. It was a well-earned win, so it looks like we are going to go through.

"I'm encouraged by it. I'm very positive as a person, I'm not negative and I don't surround myself with negativity.

"So, if anyone asks me 'Are England going to do well?' the simple answer is yes."
