Diego Maradona picked out Argentina in the same group as England when he conducted the draw for the Under-20 World Cup on Wednesday.
Joining England and six-time winners Argentina in Group A are hosts South Korea and Guinea after they were hand-drawn by Maradona and fellow ex-Argentina international Pablo Aimar at an event in Suwon.
Maradona was part of the Argentina side that won the competition in 1979, while Aimar was a winner in 1997.
Paul Simpson's England were placed in pot three for the draw, after the 24 qualifiers were split into four pots based on past performance in the previous five U20 World Cups.
Neither the 2015 champions Serbia nor runners-up and five-times winners Brazil qualified for this year's tournament.
Simpson will take charge of England in the U20 World Cup, which starts on May 20 with the final to be played at the Suwon World Cup stadium on June 11, after taking on the role following Aidy Boothroyd's appointment as manager of England Under-21s.
