Jack Butland is out the England squad after breaking a finger in training.

The incident happened towards the end of Thursday's session as England were preparing for Friday's friendly against Germany and the November 14 match with Brazil.

The goalkeeper is returning to Stoke for treatment.

It had been reported that England head coach Gareth Southgate was planning to pick Butland for the match against Germany ahead of Joe Hart.

That would have allowed Butland to play in successive senior international matches for the first time having started in England's final World Cup Qualifier in Lithuania last month, a game which England won 1-0.

Butland was first called into the England squad in 2012, ironically when John Ruddy also broke a finger in training. He has gone on to make six senior appearances for his country.

The FA has said in a statement that there will no further additions to the squad at the moment with Southgate set to assess his options after the game on Thursday evening.

Southgate had earlier said in his pre-match news conference that he may call up a couple of reinforcements from the U21s after their game in Ukraine tomorrow night.
