Ellen White scored twice as England Women came from behind to secure a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Germany Women in the SheBelieves Cup in New Jersey.

The 28-year-old was one of five changes Phil Neville made from the victory against France in the opening match of the tournament, as she replaced Jodie Taylor up front for the Lionesses.

After France held the USA to a 1-1 draw earlier in the day, England went into the match knowing a win would put them in pole position to walk away with the title.

However, after a nervy opening quarter of an hour from Neville's side, Germany took the lead following a defensive error as Demi Stokes' attempted clearance hit forward Hasret Kayikci's (17) boot and went in.

But, less than 60 seconds later White (18) drew England level as Fara Williams' effort from outside the box deflected in off her England teammate.

After doing well to reach the interval level, the Lionesses fell behind once more just six minutes after the resumption of play after more poor work from their defence.

Abbie McManus looked to leave the ball for goalkeeper Karen Bardsley to collect but German forward Lina Magull stole the ball and saw her shot cleared off the line. The follow-up was then saved by Bardsley but hit Bright and ended up in the back of the net.

Germany had opportunities to put the match to bed but with 17 minutes remaining White raced onto a ball over the top from substitute Izzy Christiansen and, with the flag staying down, she coolly slotted the ball home.

With both sides going for the winner, Alexandra Popp narrowly headed over and Almuth Schult saved well at her near post to deny White a hat-trick as both sides settled for the draw.

A win on Thursday against the USA will see Neville's side clinch the trophy in his first tournament in charge of the national side.
