John Terry thought England produced one of their best displays in recent years to defeat Bulgaria.
But skipper knows there is a job to do against Wales at Wembley
England captain John Terry believed he and his team-mates produced one of their best performances in recent years to put the Euro 2012 finals within reach.
A 3-0 win in Bulgaria on Friday night, which came courtesy of Gary Cahill and Wayne Rooney's double, underlined Fabio Capello's team's position at the top of Group G.
Wales' surprise win over Montenegro also means England now only need four points from Tuesday's game against their British rivals and October's trip to Podgorica.
But Terry's immediate focus was on the performance against a half-hearted Bulgaria in Sofia, as a 100 per cent away record in Euro 2012 qualifying was maintained.
Terry told
Sky Sports HD 1: "It was a really good night. We were hoping for a good start and certainly got that.
Difficult
"They came at us in the first five or 10 minutes and tried to press us.
"We spoke of trying to soak it up and it was always going to be difficult in the first 15 to 20 minutes.
"We soaked it up well and after that we played some really good football.
"Some of the football we played was the best for a long time. We're very pleased with that."
If Wales are defeated at Wembley, England would then lead by six points ahead of visiting Montenegro next month and in those circumstances a draw or better on their travels would see Capello's team qualify.
Cushion
Terry has always wanted England to build the six-point cushion, as he said: "That'd be ideal. That's what we've played for.
"We always realised with the way Montenegro played at Wembley it was always going to be tough going there."
Montenegro managed a draw at Wembley and England were left deflated, but it was a different story on Friday.
"We've got a good win this evening," Terry said. "The lads are delighted and the manager is very pleased.
"It's still not over, we've still got a job to do on Tuesday night."
