Defender brought into squad for Euro 2012 double-header

Sunderland right-back Phil Bardsley has scooped his first call-up to the Scotland squad. The former Manchester United defender was born in England but qualifies through a Glaswegian father and will fly out with the rest of Craig Levein's squad to the Czech Republic on Wednesday for their Euro 2012 qualifier. Bardsley, who had a spell on loan with Rangers in 2006, featured for the Black Cats in their recent draws with Liverpool and United and has impressed Levein enough to get his first taste of international football. The 25-year-old comes in after Kirk Broadfoot was forced to pull out of the Scottish set-up. Scotland's bid to reach the Poland and Ukraine finals got off to a uninspiring start in their opening two matches, as they were held in Lithuania being forced to come from a goal behind to beat Liechtenstein in stoppage time.
