Robbie Brady says scoring Republic of Ireland's winner against Italy was "like an out-of-body experience".

The Norwich winger's 85th-minute header gave his side a 1-0 win and a place in the Euro 16 knockout stage, where hosts France await on Sunday.

Brady located his brother in the crowd at the final whistle and was then manhandled in celebration by Ireland's assistant manager Roy Keane, who was caught up in the emotion of qualification.

When the dust had settled he said: "I can't really explain the feeling. People who have scored these type of goals, they speak about it and say it's like an out-of-body experience and I was lucky enough to experience that tonight.

"I'm stuck for words really, I don't know what to say. My head's still a bit all over the place, but I'm absolutely delighted with it.

"I sort of lost myself a little bit in the celebrations, but I couldn't help it. It's what dreams are made of. It was a proud night for myself and fantastic for the team."

Brady's winner was laid on by substitute and club-mate Wes Hoolahan, who moments earlier had fluffed his lines when clean through on goal.

Hoolahan said:  "I was thinking when it happened 'Oh no, what's going to happen at the end?', but luckily enough Robbie got the goal.

"I just kept my concentration and thought another chance might come or I might be able to create something.

"There are always going to be ups and downs in football - that's life. You need to stay focused and in control to the last minute. Luckily enough Robbie has got on the end of it and I probably owe him a few drinks."

France remain favourites for the trophy after qualifying top of their group, but Brady said: "I don't think we've anything to fear this weekend. Roll on France.

"We can go as far as we allow ourselves in this tournament."
