Del Bosque waits on striker's fitness and offers hope to Torres

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is optimistic regarding David Villa's chances of making his squad for Euro 2012. The Barcelona striker is currently sidelined with a broken leg and is expected to sit out the remainder of the domestic campaign as a result of an injury suffered at the Club World Cup in December. There is, however, a chance he could return before the end of the season and put himself in contention for an international recall. Del Bosque is prepared to give Villa as long as possible to prove his fitness, with it impossible to ignore the claims of the country's all-time leading goalscorer to place in his plans. "The people around him think, and he himself thinks, that he will be there," Del Bosque said on a man who has netted 51 times in 82 appearances for Spain. "We will wait until the last minute because we are talking about the best goalscorer that we currently have in Spain, the most reliable. "He has in the recent past been one of the architects of Spain's goals, so we will wait."

Time

Del Bosque says he is refusing to shut the door on any of his Euro hopefuls, with there still time for the likes of Fernando Torres to force their way back into the fold. Chelsea's misfiring striker was dropped for a recent friendly meeting with Venezuela after suffering an alarming dip in form. "We still have time for him to prove that he should return to the national team," said Del Bosque. "Fernando has been a fixture and is practically a fixture in our squads, in all the squads except the last one. "The last squad was in no way a final decision on anyone, least of all on Fernando."
