Martin's starting stats

Incredibly, Manchester United's 2-0 home loss to Manchester City in last Wednesday night's derby was the first time the club had been defeated by that score at Old Trafford in the Premier League era.

United have lost 1-0 on 23 occasions and 2-1 13 times, while there have been five 3-0 defeats - including to Tottenham on the opening day of this season - and two 3-1 reverses.

And United have also famously lost 4-1 - to Liverpool in the 2008-09 campaign - and 6-1 to City in the 2011-12 season at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Juan Mata scored on his 31st birthday in his side's 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, becoming the fourth player to net on his birthday this season after Leicester's Ricardo Pereira (against Everton), United's Anthony Martial (against Arsenal) and Cardiff's Bobby Reid (against Bournemouth).

Every second counts

Shane Long scored the quickest Premier League goal of all time last week, but by how many seconds did it beat the previous best? (David, Hereford)

MARTIN SAYS: It took Shane Long 7.69 seconds to score at Vicarage Road last week during Southampton's 1-1 draw with Watford, beating the previous record - set by Ledley King for Tottenham at Bradford in the 2000/01 season - by 2.13 seconds.

Here's a list of the 10 fastest goals in Premier League history…

Talking of quick Premier League goals, Naby Keita got on the scoresheet after just 15 seconds during Liverpool's 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Friday night, the club's fastest-ever Premier League goal.

Now, because our friends at Opta only have exact times of all Premier League goals since 2006-07, we cannot tell you whose record the midfielder has beaten.

But these Liverpool players have all scored in the first minute of a Premier League match: Stan Collymore (v Wimbledon, Nov 1996), Robbie Fowler (v Middlesbrough, Dec 1996 and Bolton, Nov 1997), Maxi Rodriguez (v Fulham, May 2011) and Martin Skrtel (v Arsenal, Feb 2014)

Pep's free-scoring Citizens

How many goals have Man City have scored in all competitions this season? How does it compare to other English teams this season? (David, Chester)

MARTIN SAYS: City have scored 158 goals in all competitions so far this season and in terms of top-flight teams, that is a record with Pep Guardiola's side beating their previous record from 2014, when they netted 156 times in all competitions.

Sergio Aguero became the second player to score 20 goals in five Premier League seasons in a row with his strike

The champions have also beaten their tally from last season by 15 goals with three games still remaining - two in the Premier League against Leicester and Brighton and the FA Cup final against Watford.

Top five: Goal in all competitions (top flight)

2019 Manchester City 158
2014 Manchester City 156
2013 Chelsea 147
2018 Manchester City 143
1957 Manchester United 143

How does that compare to other teams in England in all competitions?

City are way ahead of the rest...

Chelsea 103
Norwich City 102
Arsenal 100
Tottenham 98
Doncaster Rovers 93
West Brom 91
Luton Town 90
Barnsley 88

However, when it comes to the rest of Europe, City are still trailing Ajax, who scored their 161st goal in all competitions in their 1-0 win at Spurs in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night!

Scoring Double Acts

Sadio Mane and Mo Salah have both scored 20 Premier League goals this season. How many times has this happened before that a club has had two players reach 20? Has any club had three in a season? (Thomas, Reading)

MARTIN SAYS: The last time a club had two players reaching 20 goals in a season was during the 2013/14 campaign, and that was also Liverpool!

During that season the Reds went agonisingly close to ending their long wait to win the league under Brendan Rodgers and it was the goals of Luis Suarez (31) and Daniel Sturridge (21) that were mainly responsible for that title challenge.

Highlights from Liverpool's 5-0 win over Huddersfield in the Premier League

Liverpool will be hoping history doesn't repeat itself again and that Mane and Salah can this time lead them to a first league title in 29 years.

It's only happened on two other occasions. First, you have to go back to the 2009/10 season when Didier Drogba (29) and Frank Lampard (22) both passed the 20-goal mark during Chelsea's title winning campaign and before that to the 1993/94 season when Andrew Cole (34) and Peter Beardsley (21) were in the goals for Newcastle.

Keeping it clean

Alisson has kept 20 clean sheets this season. How does this compare to the record in a Premier League season? (Julia, Liverpool)

Alisson has more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper this season
Image: Alisson has more clean sheets than any other 'keeper this season

MARTIN SAYS: The Liverpool goalkeeper has had a superb season, but with just two games remaining he won't be able to break Petr Cech's record of 24 clean sheets in a season, which he set during the 2004/05 campaign.

Alisson - who is joint-third with former Reds No 1 Jose Reina in the list for most clean sheets in a 38-game season (the Spaniard twice had 20 shutouts) - can move up to second on the list though if he keeps out both Newcastle and Wolves in Liverpool's final two games of the season.

Meanwhile, Man City 'keeper Ederson, who has 19 clean sheets to his name so far, could still overtake his Brazilian compatriot with two games of the season remaining.

Most clean sheets in a Premier League season

Season Player Clean sheets
2004/2005 Petr Cech 24
2008/2009 Edwin van der Sar 21
1994/1995 (42-game season) Peter Schmeichel 20
2005/2006 Jose Reina 20
2008/2009 Jose Reina 20
2018/2019 Alisson 20

2006/2007 Jose Reina 19
1998/1999 David Seaman 19
1996/1997 Nigel Martyn 19

However, Alisson (20) and Ederson (36) still have a long way to go if he wants to topple Cech for the all-time clean sheet record in the Premier League…

Targett on Target

Southampton defender Matt Targett scored the 1000th Premier League goal of the season against Bournemouth on Saturday. Is this the earliest this landmark has been reach in a Premier League season? (Huw, Tonna)

MARTIN SAYS: Targett's header in Southampton's 3-3 draw against Bournemouth came on April 27, making the 2018/19 Premier League season is the fastest to reach the 1000-goal landmark in a 38-game season.

However, when it comes to 42-game campaigns, the record was set in the 1994/95 season when a thousand goals were reached by April 1.
