Inverness got their season off to a winning start at Central Park on Saturday with a 2-1 victory in their Betfred Cup match at League Two Cowdenbeath.

Captain Gary Warren's second-half header secured the three points for the 2015 Scottish Cup champions.

The defender found the net in the 75th minute after Ross Draper's opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Dean Brett before the break.

Kilmarnock's debutants impressed at Broadwood as they saw off the challenge of Clyde in a 2-1 win.

Soulaymane Coulibaly and William Boyle sealed the victory for the away side, but they had goalkeeper Jamie McDonald to thank for saving a penalty with the score 0-0. Subsitute Jamie Watson volleyed home a late goal for Clyde but it was not enough as they slipped to defeat.

Ross County left it late to take three points in their opening game of the group stages with a contentious late penalty by Brian Graham sealing a 1-0 win over Montrose.

Graham converted from the spot in the 86th minute to ensure the Premiership side edged past their League Two hosts.

Goals from Danny Swanson, Graham Cummins and Steven MacLean made it an easy afternoon for the Premiership side. However, they did get a scare when defender Jamie Duff equalised for the home side four minutes after the break.

Scottish Premiership sides did not have it all their own way, however, as Hamilton were beaten 2-1 by Ayr at Somerset Park.

Accies boss Martin Canning named goalkeeper Remi Matthews in his starting line-up following his loan move from Norwich, but the first thing he had to do was pick out Alan Forrest's second-minute penalty.

Ayr doubled their lead four minutes into the second half when Robbie Crawford curled a superb shot into the corner from 22 yards out before Louis Longridge grabbed a late consolation for Hamilton.

East Fife secured a bonus point as they beat Dundee 4-2 on penalties after the sides had played out a 1-1 draw at Bayview in a dramatic conclusion to the first game of their revamped Betfred Cup campaigns.

The game went to a penalty shoot-out and Scott Robinson scored the winning spot kick for the home side after Rory Loy and James Vincent had missed.
