Rangers mourn the death of former player David Provan

Former Rangers defender David Provan has died aged 75 following a long illness, the Ibrox club have announced.

Provan was a Light Blue between 1958 and 1970 and was part of the side which won the domestic treble in 1964.

He also won the Scottish Cup in 1963 and 1966, as well as the 1965 League Cup.

A Hall of Fame inductee at the Govan club, he featured in the European Cup Winners' Cup final defeat to Bayern Munich in 1967 and was capped five times for Scotland.

Provan went on to play for Crystal Palace and Plymouth before finishing his career with St Mirren.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson told the club's official website: "On behalf of everyone at Rangers Football Club I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Davie Provan's family and friends.

"He was a huge part of the club for decades and he enjoyed a terrific playing career here.

"Davie worked at Ibrox for a number of years as a match day host and was also a vital member of John Greig's backroom staff during his time as Rangers manager.

'His loss will be felt by everyone associated with the club and our thoughts are with Davie's son Graham, daughter Yvonne, and his two grandsons Callum and David at this difficult time."
