Stuart Pearce wants to return to role as England U21 manager
Wednesday 14 December 2016 11:46, UK
Former England U21s manager Stuart Pearce will apply for the role again as the Football Association begins its search for a replacement for Gareth Southgate, Sky sources understand.
The former Manchester City and Nottingham Forest boss was in charge of the U21s from 2007 until 2013, when the FA decided not to renew his contract after England youngsters lost all three of their matches at the European Championship.
Sky sources understand Pearce feels he has unfinished business with the U21s and he would be keen to return to the role.
However, current interim head coach Aidy Boothroyd, who attended the draw for the 2017 European Championship earlier this month, remains the firm favourite to land the job on a permanent basis.
The former Watford, Coventry and Northampton boss has previously worked with the England U20s and U19s.
The FA advertised the role on its website on Tuesday, with the closing date for applications on December 23.
