AC Milan are poised to complete the signing of Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

The 32-year-old has been in Italy to undergo a medical and all that is left is for the club to formally confirm the deal.

Lopez - the man Jose Mourinho controversially opted for ahead of Iker Casillas during his time in charge of Real - has been deemed surplus to requirements by the European champions.

The endurance of Casillas at the top level along with the signing of Keylor Navas on the back of his World Cup performances means he has opted to head elsewhere, despite being Carlo Ancelotti's number one in the league last season.

"A new stage of my career is about to begin and I thank both clubs for giving me the opportunity to be here," Lopez told AC Milan's official website.

When the move is finalised, it is likely to be done so alongside one for Napoli winger Pablo Armero, who is also applying the finishing touches to a transfer.
