AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has admitted he is interested in signing Chelsea duo Fernando Torres and Marco van Ginkel.

Torres’ future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain, despite claims from Jose Mourinho that he still has an important role to play.

With Diego Costa and Didier Drogba having been added to Chelsea’s attack over the summer, the Spain international could find himself surplus to requirements.

AC Milan are in the market for a new frontman after selling Mario Balotelli to Liverpool and Galliani admits Torres fits the profile of the type of player they are after.

He has also confirmed that an offer has been put to Chelsea for Holland international midfielder Van Ginkel.

Galliani told Milan Channel: “Our goal is to take a great striker.

“Fernando Torres? He is a great striker. Let’s see if he comes or someone else. We are actively working.

“Van Ginkel? We are confident. We have made our proposal to Chelsea and are now waiting on an answer. We hope we can get him.”

Speaking on the Morning View on Sky Sports News HQ, former England captain Terry Butcher said Mourinho might be reluctant to lose a valued squad player.

“Managers like to have someone who can come off the bench and are experienced," he said. "Torres – he’s a tryer and he works hard, it just hasn’t really gone for him recently.”

However, Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker disagreed, saying: “He needs to find a club – somewhere that will suit him, where they’ll love him. He’s not going to play at Chelsea. He needs to get away.”

"He must think he still has it within himself to rediscover what he had at Atletico and Liverpool - I think he still has it in him if he finds the right club to get back to that level."
