Darren McGregor hopes Rangers can extend their winning run in the league

Darren McGregor has urged Rangers to pile some early pressure on Hearts in the Scottish Championship.

Ally McCoist’s team moved to the top of the table with Friday’s 4-0 win over Raith Rovers, but unbeaten Hearts will regain the lead with a point at Dumbarton.

Last month’s 2-1 win at Ibrox has given the Jambos an early advantage in the league, although McGregor expects their unblemished record to end in the next few weeks.

The defender wants the Light Blues to continue their own run of six victories as they attempt to punish any slip-ups.

"Hearts have had the best start to the season they could possibly have imagined," said McGregor.

"They are a young squad but Robbie Neilson has got them playing well. It will be interesting to see when the shoe is on the other foot and they are chasing us for a change.

"I'd be surprised if they went the whole season unbeaten, so it will be interesting when they get a defeat to see how they react to that.

"But we need to go out and win every week ourselves. But if we perform like we did on Friday we won't be far away."

Goals from Nicky Clark, Ian Black, Nicky Law and Lee McCulloch ensured that Rangers had the perfect preparation for this week's League Cup tie with Inverness.

"We passed the ball well and to get four goals is great," said McGregor. "We could have got a few more but we are slowly gelling together.

"There has obviously been a few additions to the squad and it has taken us time to knit together, but we showed how well we can do and hopefully we can carry that into Tuesday."
