Ajax missed the chance to knock PSV Eindhoven off the top of the Eredivisie table as they were held to a 1-1 draw at ADO Den Haag on Sunday.

The Amsterdammers led through Davy Klaassen's eighth-minute effort, but Michiel Kramer equalised in the 85th minute.

ADO lost Gianni Zuiverloon to a 90th-minute red card but there was no time for Ajax to take advantage, meaning they moved one point behind PSV, having played a game more than their rivals.

PEC Zwolle claimed a thumping 5-0 win at Excelsior.

Goals from Stefan Nijland, Mustafa Saymak and Jesper Drost effectively had the game won by half-time, with Nijland and Saymak netting again after the break.

Fourth-placed FC Twente lost ground in the title race as they went down 2-1 at home to FC Groningen.

The visitors got off to a strong start and goals from Michael De Leeuw and Tjaronn Chery had them two up within half-an-hour.

Groningen had Danny Hoesen sent off in the 81st minute and Twente pulled a goal back two minutes from time through Luc Castaignos, but they could not find a leveller.
