Everton Ladies have re-signed England U20 defender Ellie Stewart from city rivals Liverpool.

The 18-year-old came through Everton’s academy but left to join the Reds in 2013.

“Although I am still a young player developing my game, I would like more first-team football and hopefully I can achieve that at Everton,” Stewart said on Liverpool’s website.

"Working alongside the likes of Gemma Bonner and Becky Easton has been fantastic for my development and being involved in both title victories was a great experience.

"However, the challenge for me now is to break into the first team at Everton and get some much-needed experience playing first-team football."

Everton boss Andy Spence was quick to snap-up Stewart as he bids to strengthen his side in their bid to return to FA WSL1.

“Ellie is a player who we know a tremendous amount about and we have tracked her development since she left us in 2013,” Spence told Everton’s website.

“Once it became apparent that Ellie was available, it was an easy decision for me to make in terms of looking to bring her back to the club.

"We faced competition for her signature from WSL 1 and 2 clubs as she has fantastic potential - but I think Ellie could see we are very keen to give her the platform to showcase her undoubted ability."
