Yeovil Town hope to keep hold of Joe Edwards this month but have accepted they could lose their captain before the deadline, according to Sky sources

The 24-year-old, whose current contract expires at the end of the season, has enjoyed another successful season in Gary Johnson’s side, making 31 appearances in all competitions.

Edwards has become the subject of interest from Championship clubs Birmingham and Charlton this month, as well as League One promotion chasers and former club Bristol City.

But Yeovil have told Sky Sports they have not yet received any offers for the midfielder.

Sky sources understand manager Johnson is determined to keep hold of his skipper and tie him down to a new contract, but the club will listen to offers for the promising young defender.

Gloucester-born Edwards began his career as a Bristol City trainee before impressing on loan at Yeovil in 2012.

He signed for the club on a short-term basis in January 2013 before committing to a two-year deal that August.
