Eredivisie round-up: Ajax beat rivals PSV Eindhoven 3-1 to close gap at top

Ajax staged a late rally to beat PSV Eindhoven 3-1 on Sunday, although the same will have to play out over the course of the season if they are to prevent their rivals winning the Eredivisie.

Two goals in the final eight minutes, from Lasse Schone and Anwar El Ghazi, earned Ajax the victory after Ricardo Kishna's opener was equalised by Luuk de Jong.

But PSV are 11 points clear with nine games to go and the title is still very much theirs to lose.

Ajax saw fourth-placed Feyenoord slip eight points behind them after being held to a goalless draw at FC Utrecht. Third-placed AZ are six points behind Ajax.

Excelsior pulled eight points clear of the relegation play-off places with an impressive 3-0 win over Heerenveen.

Luigi Bruins opened the scoring inside five minutes, Tom van Weert ensured the second half started the same way and late substitute Kevin Vermeulen had time to add a third.

ADO Den Haag also kept the drop zone at arm's length as Xander Houtkoop's last-minute goal earned a 1-1 draw against FC Groningen, who had led through Tjaronn Chery's penalty.
