Charlie's Champions League predictions: Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund, Ajax vs Real Madrid

Charlie's Predictions

The Champions League action continues on Wednesday but how does Charlie Nicholas see Tottenham and Real Madrid faring?

The Soccer Saturday pundit called Roma's win over Porto on Tuesday but did not foresee Manchester United's damaging 2-0 first-leg defeat at home to PSG.

Tottenham face their first knockout test against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, while Real Madrid take on Ajax. Read on for Charlie's verdict...

Tottenham vs Dortmund, Wednesday, 8pm

Spurs are grinding results at the minute but doing the business without Harry Kane and Dele Alli. Heung-Min Son has to be in the potential list of six for Premier League player of the year. He is carrying Spurs through and his energy levels have been outstanding.

This is a different Dortmund side though, and I still feel Spurs have a weakness at the back. Mauricio Pochettino has been chopping and changing too much in defence. Kane could be back for the return leg but the reality is this is another game of goals.

Jadon Sancho

Both teams will open up and attack well. Dortmund will not be as adventurous - they will sit in and counter-attack which will be dangerous for Spurs, and they will choke them and try to boss midfield.

CHARLIE SAYS: 1-1 (11/2 with Sky Bet)

Ajax vs Real Madrid, Wednesday, 8pm

Ajax have found their mojo and are a decent force again, but there is a combination of old and young. Tadic has the creative spark. Hakim Ziyech and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are scoring. They have never changed their philosophy on how they wanted to master the art of entertaining football.

Santiago Solari saw his side bounce back from a humiliating defeat at Eibar last weekend

Young players are probably not as good as they should be, but they are covering it with Daley Blind, who is back now. It is about understanding the club and integrating young players into the football club that they know. I have always had a lot of respect for them. They have a lovely stadium in the centre of the city, and one of the most iconic kits.

They have the history behind them and I would love to see them back among the best. They are capable of upsetting Real Madrid but it's great to see them here. This is the game to watch.

Charlie's earlier predictions...

Manchester United vs PSG

When this draw came out, I gave Manchester United no hope - but now, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I think it could go either way.

The absences of Neymar and Edinson Cavani are a huge blow for PSG and a boost for United. Cavani would have caused them a tonne of problems.

United must take a lead into Paris, and Paul Pogba has been in immense form. He must do it on nights like these.

CHARLIE SAYS: 2-2 - RESULT: 0-2

Roma vs Porto

Roma could be dark horses but they needed to get the right draw. They have got just that. Porto do not travel very well, and Porto and Ajax would have been one of my selections to face.

Stephan El Shaarawy is scoring goals and I have always been a fan of Dzeko - he always delivers. I always thought he was underrated when he played in the Premier League.

CHARLIE SAYS: 3-0 - RESULT: 2-1
