Arsene Wenger in market for world-class goalkeeper, says Charlie Nicholas

Charlie Nicholas still believes Arsene Wenger should be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer after the Frenchman declared his defence good enough to win next season’s Premier League.
Arsenal have dropped just two points from their last 10 Premier League games, conceding only six goals during that run, and Wenger has suggested he is not planning on strengthening at centre-half this summer.
However, Nicholas, who also feels they need to sign a defensive midfielder, believes that Wenger must jump at the opportunity if either Chelsea’s Petr Cech, Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas or Manchester United’s Victor Valdes become available.
He told Sky Sports: “My opinion is that Wenger will go into the market but the only area he’ll be considering is a goalkeeper.
"David Ospina is a decent goalkeeper but decent goalkeepers don’t win you titles. If an opportunity for Cech, Casillas or Valdes comes up then they have to take it.”
Nicholas admits Wenger may have to be patient and wait for developments at other clubs before swooping for a new keeper.
He added: “Much depends on Jose Mourinho’s willingness to sell and whether David de Gea remains at Old Trafford, but there’s probably going to be a chance to sign one of them this summer.
“Wenger showed when he brought in Jens Lehmann that he’s willing to bring in somebody experienced if he feels it’s required.
“A lot depends on Wojciech Szczesny’s reaction to being dropped, but the fact that he hasn’t been back in the team suggests that he hasn’t responded well and, if another goalkeeper is signed then I’d expect him to leave.”
