Highlights from the MLS as New York City took on Vancouver Whitecaps

Steven Mendoza's late winner gave Patrick Vieira a first home win in charge of New York City FC.

After five previously frustrating outings at Yankee Stadium, Mendoza's 73rd-minute effort finally gave New York some home comforts in a 3-2 success over Vancouver Whitecaps.

Two David Villa goals for Vieira's men were sandwiched in between Octavio Rivero and Christian Bolanos efforts before Mendoza struck.

Elsewhere, Jordan Morris made it three goals in three games as his late strike earned Seattle Sounders a 1-0 win over Columbus Crew.

Morris struck in the 88th minute to seal a third win in five games for the Sounders.

Didier Drogba scored for Montreal Impact, but they twice squandered a lead in a 2-2 draw with Colorado Rapids, while Simon Dawkins earned a 1-1 draw for Philadelphia Union against San Jose Earthquakes.
