New York City 2-0 New York Red Bulls: Patrick Vieira's side earn first derby victory

New York City recorded their first ever Hudson River derby success following a 2-0 victory over rivals New York Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium.
Patrick Vieira's side suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat to their rivals on the same ground just six weeks ago but they put that defeat firmly to their back on their minds as goals from Englishman Jack Harrison (8) and David Villa (66) secured all three points.
Victory moves New York City, who sealed a third straight league win, a point clear of Philadelphia Union at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference having played a game more.
New York Red Bulls, who lost defender Chris Duvall to a straight red card with 11 minutes remaining for a studs up challenge on Andrea Pirlo, stay fourth, four points adrift of NYCFC after tasting derby defeat for the first time.
With the 7-0 defeat six weeks ago fresh in their minds, Patrick Vieira's side made a fast start with David Villa and Thomas McNamara both denied by Luis Robles.
However, New York City were not to be denied for long as Harrison found space at the back post in the eighth minute after Pirlo's failed corner routine, and the Englishman fired home from close range to give the hosts an early advantage.
Jesse Marsch's side looked to respond straight away as Felipe looked to pick out the run of Connor Lade, but Jefferson Mena was across quickly to make a crucial interception just as the full-back was about to pull the trigger.
Pirlo, who was uncharacteristically aggressive in the middle of the park, fired over from a free-kick in the 24th minute as New York City continued to control proceedings.
The visitors did have a couple of sightings of Josh Saunders' goal, but he stood firm, saving Salvatore Zizzo's weak header before parrying Alex Muyl's drive from the edge of the area.
Frank Lampard was quiet for most of the opening half but he burst into life just before the break, skipping past the Aurelien Collin and teeing up Villa. The former Barcelona forward took the shot on first time from the edge of the penalty area but fired wide of the far post.
Villa, picked out by Lampard again, had another chance to double his side's advantage straight after the interval but his shot was easily saved by Robles.
It took New York Red Bulls until the 60th minute to really test Joe Saunders as Collin rose highest to meet Mike Grella's cross, but the defender's effort was straight at the goalkeeper.
Marsch reacted by throwing on Lloyd Sam for Muyl before seeing his side waste another chance in the 63rd minute as Felipe headed wide from close range after meeting Connor Lade's shot.
And they were punished three minutes later as New York City broke quickly with Lampard releasing Harrison down the left. The goalscorer's cross then picked out the unmarked Villa, who tapped home from close range.
Lampard was jeered after coming on in the 7-0 defeat six weeks ago but this time he was cheered as he was replaced by Kiguel Lopez with 17 minutes remaining.
However, the frustration continued for the visitors and they were reduced to 10 men as Duvall lunged in on Pirlo to cap what was a poor day at the office for Marsch and his side.
