FC Dallas were denied in their bid to regain outright leadership of Major League Soccer's Western Conference as they were held to a 1-1 draw by New York City.

Victory would have taken the Texan side back to the top of the pile - and they were on course when Kellyn Acosta gave them a 20th-minute lead.

However, Thomas McNamara's 69th-minute equaliser means Dallas join Sporting Kansas City and Houston Dynamo on 19 points - although Dallas do have two games in hand.

Also on Sunday, Romain Alessandrini's quickfire double proved decisive as Los Angeles Galaxy beat New York Red Bulls 3-1.

Alessandrini netted in the eighth and ninth minutes to take his tally to six goals in 10 games since joining from Marseille.

Giovanni dos Santos made the points safe with a 78th-minute penalty, before Daniel Royer replied in the last minute - shortly after Galaxy's Bradley Diallo had been dismissed following a second yellow card.
