Jack Harrison struck a late winner to help New York City FC extend their unbeaten run to five games with a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City.
In what was a quiet opening 45 minutes, the best chance of the half fell to Maxi Moralez, who forced Tim Melia into action after being picked out by Harrison.
New York City's dominance grew and Harrison eventually broke the deadlock, scoring his ninth goal of the season with just six minutes remaining to secure all three points.
RJ Allen picked up the loose ball after Thomas McNamara's shot had been punched clear by goalkeeper Tim Melia and his cross was chested down by Harrison before he rifled home on the volley.
Victory sees NYCFC improve their record to 10 games unbeaten at Yankee Stadium and move to within move to within six points of Eastern Conference leaders Toronto FC.
