Official who allowed Tevez's offside goal quits refereeing

Italian Roberto Rosetti has quit refereeing but insisted his decision had nothing to do with an error at the World Cup. The 42-year-old was at the centre of controversy after allowing Carlos Tevez's clearly offside goal in Argentina's 3-1 win over Mexico in the last 16. Rosetti, who took charge of the Euro 2008 final, has now opted to retire and become the referee designator for Serie B. But the referee, who was not kept on for the quarter-finals, insisted his decision had nothing to do with the error. "The disappointment of the World Cup did not influence my decision," he said in a statement.
