Southampton have made an initial £10m bid for Barcelona defender Marlon, according to Sky sources.

The fee could rise to £12m with additional payments for the 22-year-old Brazilian, who was recently recalled by the La Liga club from a two-year loan at Nice.

He made a couple of first team appearances under Luis Enrique but was mainly a B team player before joining Nice on loan last year.

It is also understood that Mark Hughes' Saints are interested in Atalanta striker Andrea Petagna.

Hughes is looking to beef up his squad having steered the club to Premier League safety after taking eight points from eight games.
