Southend remain rooted to the bottom of the table after a 2-0 defeat at Tranmere.
Peter Clarke headed a 31st-minute opener before James Vaughan hit a deflected second from long range.
For Southend it's a third defeat in a row. They have picked up just two points all season.
Tranmere, meanwhile, rose to 16th after their first win in four.
