Blues boss prepared to be patient in pursuit of Trotters defender

Andre Villas-Boas has set no deadline for a deal involving Gary Cahill to be completed by, with Chelsea still locked in talks with the Bolton defender. The Blues had hoped to have the England international on board by now, with a fee having been agreed with the Trotters some time ago. Villas-Boas' plan was to move quickly once the winter window opened and get fresh faces on board. He has been left frustrated by the protracted talks, with a compromise on personal terms proving to be difficult to reach. The Portuguese coach will not be giving up on the deal, though, and has refused to criticise Cahill and his representatives for wanting to get the best possible terms.

Ongoing

"Still an ongoing negotiation, not that we don't want it resolved as soon as possible," Villas-Boas said when asked to give an update on the talks. "I'm sure that all of the parties are protecting their interests." Villas-Boas denied reports claiming Chelsea have made a bid for Lille playmaker Eden Hazard, but admits to being an admirer of the Belgian starlet. He also confirmed that Josh McEachran, who has been linked with Swansea, is set to head out on loan and that Gael Kakuta is closing on a loan switch to Dijon - with that deal not done as yet despite the Ligue 1 outfit announcing that the French winger is on his way home.
