Defender signs one year extension at St Mary's
Danny Butterfield has signed a one-year contract extension with Southampton, keeping him at the South Coast club until June 2013.
The full-back has made just one league start for the Saints this season, and his fitness had dropped further by a recent injury preventing him from training.
But the 32-year-old feels he is still good enough to force his way into the Southampton team, this season and next.
He told Saints Player: "I'm delighted to have signed a new deal. It's been spoken about for a while now and to have eventually signed for another year at this club - I'm delighted to have done that.
"Security comes with another year but most importantly I think I'm good enough to be playing in the team and I've certainly got a lot to offer the team between now and the end of the season and certainly next season.
"We're in a good position at the minute to achieve what we've set out to achieve which is Premier League football.
"There's still a long way to go but it certainly matches my ambition to play in the Premier League again so it's certainly something that I couldn't turn down and I just hope we can stay strong now to achieve what we want to achieve."
