Appleton targeting injury boost during blank midweek

Portsmouth midfielder Kelvin Etuhu has extended his stay by another month having been given the green light by the Football League. Etuhu joined Pompey on a month-to-month deal in January and he has started five games in the Championship during his time at Fratton Park. He will now spend a further few weeks on the South Coast, although the former Manchester City youngster has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury. Manager Michael Appleton said: "Kelvin has signed for another month but he's got that hamstring injury he picked up. "He was struggling a bit before Ipswich. It's a small tear and it isn't quite right."

Boost

Meanwhile, Appleton was happy to see David Norris return from injury in the 0-0 draw with Leeds United on Saturday and hopes Luke Varney is edging closer towards a comeback. "David Norris coming back is a big boost because he was a key part of things before he got injured," added Appleton. "The more minutes we can get out of him the better. "It's quite a good week for us not to have a midweek game. People like Chuck (Norris) have the chance to get a good week's training under his belt. "If we can get Luke anywhere near the first-team training that will give us a boost."
