Berra to leave Wolves

Defender seeks a new challenge

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Stale Solbakken has admitted that the club will listen to offers for defender Christophe Berra. The Scotland international has just one year remaining on his current contract with Wolves and has told the club that he wants to move on. "Christophe has one year of his contract remaining and, after talks, has decided that he wishes to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere," said Solbakken. "As a result of that, and given his contract situation with only 12 months remaining, the club has reluctantly agreed to make him available for transfer. "We currently have good competition for places in his position, and I have already said I would like to bring in another central defender if possible. "Christophe will continue to work with the first-team squad and be available for selection while the club await an offer which they believe to be acceptable for consideration." Berra, 27, joined Wolves from Hearts in February 2009 for a fee of around £2.3million and has made 122 appearances.
