Sao Paulo claim they have agreed a deal to sign right-back Cicinho on a six-month loan deal from AS Roma.

Brazilian right-back returns to native land until end of season

Sao Paulo have confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign right-back Cicinho on a six-month loan deal from AS Roma. The Brazilian outfit released a statement on the club's official website on Tuesday which read: "Cicinho is back with Sao Paulo and the AS Roma right-back arrives on loan until June 30." It is believed the Brazil international's contract may be extended if Sao Paulo advance into the latter stages of the Copa Libertadores - Latin America's most important club competition. Cicinho was a key member of Sao Paulo's team during their treble winning season in 2005 - including Fifa's Club World Cup - and caught the eye of Real Madrid, who paid a handsome sum for his services. The 29-year-old moved to Roma after two seasons in Spain and became a first-team regular with the Giallorossi. Cicinho missed several months last year with the Serie A giants with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and has since struggled to regain his place in Claudio Ranieri's starting XI. Cicinho becomes the latest player to return to his native land and joins the likes of Robinho and Adriano who returned to Brazil after spells in England and Italy respectively.
