Former Germany striker joins promoted side
St Pauli have secured the signature of former Germany striker Gerald Asamoah on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the club after being released from Schalke, where he spent 11 years after joining in 1999 from Hannover 96.
Ghana-born Asamoah became the first black player to represent Germany in their history after winning his first cap against Slovakia in 2001.
He went on to play 43 times for his country, scoring six goals and playing in two World Cups in 2002 and 2006.
St Pauli will look to use Asamoah's experience in the top-flight as a major boost in their fight against relegation, after achieving promotion from the second tier to the Bundesliga last season.
