Dagenham & Redbridge have appointed John Still as their manager on a contract which runs until the end of next season.

The 65-year-old has returned to Victoria Road for his third spell in charge in place of Wayne Burnett who was sacked before Christmas.

Burnett departed following the 3-0 home defeat to Bristol Rovers which left the Daggers bottom of Sky Bet League 2, although they are now only in the relegation zone on goal difference - with 16 points from 24 games - after winning 3-1 at Stevenage on Monday.

Still was previously in charge of the club from 1992 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2013 and led them to two promotions to the Football League from the Conference during his second stint as manager.

He left Dagenham & Redbridge to take the reins at Luton Town in 2013 and also guided them back to the Football League before parting company with the Hatters on February 17.

Still's first match back at the helm will be an away game against Exeter City on Saturday with an FA Cup third-round trip to Everton coming up seven days later.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted. The club has been important to me since I was 15-years-old. I've spent a lot of time here as a supporter, player and manager. We're in a difficult position so it's really important we can try and do some things that can keep us in the football league.

"It doesn't feel weird to be back here to be honest. There's no real changes. I've come back and it's like putting on an old pair of slippers, they just fitted back in really. The staff and people around the ground are similar. There is no real settling in period now. It's just a case of getting to know the players and trying to get results that are much needed."

Chairman David Bennett said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have John back, in the situation that we find ourselves in, I truly believe that he is the right man to turn things around."
