Valencia miss chance to claim third as Hercules are relegated

Valencia missed the chance to confirm third place in La Liga as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Espanyol. Los Che took the lead in Catalunya with Roberto Soldado scoring just nine minutes in. Espanyol's highly-rated striker Pablo Osvaldo levelled on 19 minutes, but Juan Mata put Valencia back ahead just moments later. Espanyol sealed a share of the spoils and denied Valencia the chance to confirm third place with Ernesto Galan pouncing 14 minutes from time. Valencia had the chance to claim third spot as fourth-placed Villarreal were play out another goalless draw - this time at already relegated Almeria. Sevilla missed the chance to move into fifth place as they lost 3-2 at Osasuna - whose relegation fears have all but gone after their third win in succession. Sevilla raced into a two-goal lead as Alvaro Negredo's excellent run of form continued as he grabbed both goals before the break. But Osasuna showed great commitment and they had their own goal-scoring hero in the shape of Kike Sola who grabbed his own brace to level matters. Then in injury-time the home side won it with Dejan Lekic firing home from close-range. The win takes them five-points clear of the bottom three. Hercules joined Almeria in the Segunda Liga as they were relegated after drawing 2-2 with Real Mallorca. Hercules had given themselves brief hope as they lead 2-0 at the break with Sendoa claiming a brace. But second-half goals from Victor and Pierre Webo relegated Hercules, as they now lie six-points adrift of Getafe - with two matches remaining - and they have a worse record in their head to head with the Madrid outfit. Real Zaragoza, meanwhile, remain in the final relegation spot as they lost 2-1 at Real Sociedad. Sociedad went ahead on 24 minutes through Raul Tamudo, but Zaragoza looked to have claimed a valuable point with Gabi levelling just after the break. But Sociedad claimed maximum spoils with Mikel Aranburu scoring with just two minutes left.
