Serie A giants keen to keep in-demand striker at Stadio Olimpico

Roma director Walter Sabatini claims the Serie A giants are doing all they can to keep Mirko Vucinic at the club. The Montenegrin striker fuelled speculation of a summer departure recently when he complained about his poor relationship with the Roma fans. His comments were taken to mean that he will soon be trying his luck elsewhere, with there no shortage of interest in his services. Premier League pair Tottenham and Blackburn are reported to be keen, while Juventus are known to be long-standing admirers of his talent. Roma, though, are hoping Vucinic can be persuaded to stay put and claim reports suggesting transfer talks have already been opened are wide of the mark.

Negotiations

"The negotiations with Juventus do not exist, so it's impossible to tell you any more about that," Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia. "We don't want to sell Vucinic. Of course, we'll have to see what he wants to do." Roma are hoping Vucinic will line up alongside new signing Erik Lamela next season, with the promising Argentine midfielder all set to complete a move from River Plate. On Lamela's imminent arrival in a deal worth €20million (£17.8m), Sabatini said: "I'd say the negotiations for Lamela are closed. There are some marginal details, but the deal is in place. "It is an important sum, but I think he's worth the money, because Lamela is a young player who is already at a high level and has a bright future ahead of him."
