Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo is on his way to MLS Side New York City, according to Sky Italia.
Speculation has been rife that Pirlo would leave Turin after Juve won the Italian league title for the fourth season in a row.
Pirlo cried after the final whistle of their 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona and although the player himself insisted it was because he was upset at the result, it has also been suggested it may be due to his imminent departure from the Bianconeri.
“We believe Andrea Pirlo is about to sign with New York City FC, it is really just a matter of days,” said Sky Italia’s Valentina Fass.
“When he was crying at the end of the match, one of our reporters asked, ‘why were you crying, because it’s the end of your time at Juventus’? He said it was because they had lost the final.
“When you lose a game you feel like crying but we believe he is about to sign for New York City, although Sydney also appear to be interested in him. Alesandro Del Piero was playing there until recently.”
Former AC Milan star Pirlo, who is under contract with Juventus for another season, played 33 times for the club in all competitions last season.
If he does join New York City, Pirlo will team up with former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard, who will officially join the club on July 1.
