Champions Arsenal capitalised on Manchester City’s defeat at Aston Villa to move level on points with the Premier League leaders by comfortably beating Everton 2-0 at a rain-soaked Emirates Stadium.
Ezri Konsa poked in at the back post after seven minutes to score a scrappy first goal for the club and end Arsenal's wait for a first non-penalty set-piece goal of the season before Gabriel's second-half header sealed the win on his 200th Premier League appearance.
Arsenal, buoyed by the news of City's first league defeat this season, were as relentless as the north London rain as they made it seven wins from eight in the league to keep up with their rivals on 21 points, behind only on goal difference.

Viktor Gyokeres, handed his first league start of the season, failed to get off the mark for the campaign but was credited with the assist for Konsa's opener, making it two from two after setting up Declan Rice's equaliser in Wednesday's 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich.
Everton, now winless in 14 league trips to Arsenal, were handed a big chance to equalise at 1-0 just before half-time but Thierno Barry failed to make the most of Ben White's weak headed back pass to goalkeeper David Raya.
David Moyes' depleted side, without Jack Grealish and Jarrad Branthwaite at Arsenal, were unbeaten in the league until last weekend, but have now suffered back-to-back defeats and remain without an away win in the competition after the fourth attempt.

Arteta: I love the mentality of this team!
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta:
"We're very happy with the victory, with the performance and with the week, because we were given a terrible schedule.
"We have overcome every hurdle, on top of some injuries. I love the mentality of the team and the quality we've shown."
On Gabriel overcoming injury scare: "He's a clear example. When I'm talking about the mentality of the team, obviously the mentality of the team is the mentality of the individuals in the team.
"Gabi is a great example of that, because we were all scared. Not because of the way he went down, but the reaction of the players that we're next to him. Immediately he says that he wants to continue and then he scores a goal to help us to win the game. That's what we need from our players."
On Konsa's impressive adaptation to Arsenal: "Unbelievable. To come to a huge club like Arsenal, with no pre-season, when William Saliba and the other players that are already here.
"To position yourself in that manner, with that naturality, and performing at the level that he's doing and building already a chemistry and a partnership with Gabi that seems so solid is very difficult to do and we are lucky to have him."
Moyes: We didn't do enough to win
Everton boss David Moyes:
"We didn't really get to a level which I think would have been good enough to win on the day. We gave away a goal very early which meant we were chasing.
"We got a bit better in the second half, got back into it a little bit more, got a bit closer to Arsenal and then they came up with the second goal. Some good stuff, certainly on the defensive side of it.
"I didn't feel we'd done enough on the attacking part of the game."
