Liberia's Musa Bility has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against FIFA's refusal of his candidacy in the vote to elect a new president of world football's governing body.
Bility was barred from entering the race to succeed Sepp Blatter in the election to be held in February after he failed to pass a series of integrity checks.
A statement from CAS read: "In appealing to the CAS, Mr Bility seeks a final decision declaring that his integrity is not challenged and that he can run for the FIFA presidential election in February.
"He also filed a request to suspend the execution of the challenged decision to allow him to continue with his election campaign pending a final decision on the merits of the case.
"Finally, Mr Bility has requested that an expedited procedure be put in place to enable the final decision on the merits to be issued before the end of the year."
A hearing on the matter could take place before Christmas but a date has not been confirmed.
Blatter, who is serving a 90-day suspension, has already announced he is stepping down from the presidency he has held since 1998.
In the running to succeed him are Prince Ali bin al Hussein of Jordan, UEFA general-secretary Gianni Infantino, Asian football head Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa of Bahrain, Jerome Champagne, a former assistant general secretary of FIFA, and South Africa's Tokyo Sexwale.
Another hopeful is UEFA president Michel Platini, but the Frenchman is also currently serving a 90-day ban.
