Former Exeter midfielder Neil Saunders has had to call time on his playing career at the age of just 27.
Saunders was released by the Grecians last month after a succession of knee injuries restricted him to just 24 appearances since joining the club in the summer of 2007.
After considering the avenues open to him, Saunders announced his retirement from the game on Tuesday.
Saunders came through the youth ranks at Watford and also had spells with Barnet and Team Bath before moving to Exeter.
Meanwhile, Craig McAllister, who was also released by Exeter in May, has penned a one-year contract with Blue Square Premier side Crawley.
