Burton have signed experienced goalkeeper Stephen Bywater on a contract until the end of the season.
The deal is subject to international clearance as the 34-year-old has most recently been playing his football in India for Kerala Blasters.
Bywater is reunited with manager Nigel Clough, who he also worked under at Derby, and he will provide competition and cover for Jon McLaughlin after Remi Matthews returned to Norwich at the end of his loan spell.
"I knew the club was interested in a goalkeeper and we had a chat. Martin Taylor was the goalkeeping coach at Derby and now he's here that was a big attraction for me," Bywater told the club's official website.
"They are a great set of lads and there's a good atmosphere around the dressing room.
"You have a team that has got a lot of clean sheets and who are top of the league and I'm here to add to that and to a squad that's hopefully going to do well.
"There are no negatives really. I'm here to enjoy myself and be part of a squad that's hopefully going for promotion."
Bywater, a former England Under-21 international, made his name at West Ham before spending five years with Derby. He has also played for Gillingham and Doncaster.
