Germany No 1 Julian Pollersbeck consults his notes in the shoot-out win against England

Germany's U21 goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck used an interesting tactic in his side's penalty shoot-out win against England in the European U21 Championship semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Germans edged out Aidy Boothroyd's men 4-3 on penalties after the game had ended all square at 2-2 following 120 minutes of action at the Stadion Miejski in Tychy.

And it was Hamburg goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck who proved to be Germany's hero after the 22-year-old shot-stopper kept out efforts from both Tammy Abraham and then decisively Nathan Redmond.

However, was the 'keeper helped in his penalty-saving efforts by being able to consult what appeared to be some notes that were cleverly tucked away in his shorts?

Well if so, then he was only taking a leaf out of Jens Lehmann's book after the then German No 1 used the same tactics to help his country beat Argentina on penalties at the 2006 World Cup.
